Madrid for families Madridfacts 01

Madrid is the ideal place to visit for families; it is very kids orientated with fantastic venues to keep all the family happy throughout your visit, along with the fabulous weather. Keep in mind that if you wish to have a relaxing trip, the best way to do this is by using public transport such as the metro, taxi or buses. Madrilenians are fantastic, open and very friendly as well as helpful people, but driving in Madrid as a tourist can be a little nervy, surrounded by motorbikes, cars and articulated vehicles which usually don't mind undertaking as well as overtaking combined with the sheer volume and noise of rush hour traffic can be draining and the best advice is to leave the driving to someone else. The city is more than adequately provided with a terrific underground metro system with connecting stations all over Madrid for easy access to all amenities in and around Madrid.

Start the day with a trip to Retiro Park near the center of Madrid, you can hire a boat and take a trip around the beautiful man-made boating lake for all of the family, with fantastic scenery, plants, flowers trees fountains and also beautiful buildings such as the Palacio de Cristal (Crystal Palace) with an attractive lake with wonderful wildlife, birds, ducks, fish and turtles.

How about a trip to the Parque de Atracciones (Attractions Park) which is centrally located, a fantastic amusement park, full of rides and amusements for all the family and for all ages and right next to the Zoo Aquarium and you can easily pass the full day away. Both of these venues have restaurants and full amenities.

Maybe you would prefer to go to Faunia where you can see a huge collection of animals and insects with plenty to see and do for all of the family an easy way to keep the children very interested. The Madrid Zoo, next to the Parque de Atracciones is also very highly recommended full of mammals, animals, tremendous bird shows and Dolphin shows, a fantastic day out and great value.

Where to eat

When travelling with kids its usually makes more sense to stick to the franchise restaurants more close to home, such as Tony Romas, Hollywood or Hard Rock Cafe. In Madrid you will find also the usual MacDonald's and Burger King restaurants, you can also try the Vips restaurants which provide a very American/European type food, an easy selection for something different but similar to what you are used to.

There so many things you can do as a family in Madrid, keep in mind the information available at your hotel on seasonal events and shows and attractions. There is something for everyone in Madrid, you will also notice that Madrid being so family orientated, there are almost on every street very safe kids' play parks to stop and relax before moving onto the next venue.
